But we also get to see a rather exciting first episode, a rather sophisticated second, a clever third, a marvellous arcing plot discovering the heart of the Federation, Avon and Vila's gambling and a very strong last episode with a wonderful ironic twist.

This is my second favourite series. Travis disappoints, though the development of his character is interesting. Servalan doesn't do much (she is often in Travis' shadow) though she gloriously comes into her own in "Star One" (which I think is her best performance in the entire programme). Blake, Avon and Vila dominate the crew - the others really are just cyphers aren't they? (Cally doesn't leave the Liberator from returning from Horizon till going to Freedom City!). Still a good crew though.

Hammy characters:-
Alta Two (why acknowledge in such a hammy way?), Selma (does Ro really love her, treating her like that?), Kasabi (a rebel leader that not even a rabbit would be frightened of), Veron (I don't think she will be a potent force on Earth), Ushton & Inga (Blake knows some drips in his past doesn't he?), Nagu (what a creep!) and Tara (stop laughing! What's so funny?).

Great characters:-
Largo (oozes venom), The Enforcer (there's always someone like that you have to work with), The Chairman (now he is frightening!), Carnell (fascinating, but keep your distance), Par (nice to see a soldier who has opinions), Bellfriar & Gambril (it's a pity they snuff it), Provine (a villain I really like), Del Grant (nice to see someone who disconcerts Avon), Docholli (I hope he survived) and Durkim (marvellous to see someone arguing intelligently and forcefully with Servalan).
